Dr. James Bickley
Clinical Psychologist & Co-Founder
James is a Chartered Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Co-Founder of Changing Minds. With over 25 years of experience, he brings a deep commitment to supporting children and young people—especially those facing significant challenges—to realise their potential and thrive.
James has worked extensively across mental health, youth justice, and high-performance environments, developing and leading psychological services that make a real difference. He has particular expertise in working with young people who present with high-risk behaviours, often shaped by complex life experiences. His approach is grounded in compassion, clarity, and a belief in the power of psychological understanding to create lasting change.
A passionate advocate for inclusion and empowerment, James combines his love of sport with a drive to help others perform well—whether that’s in life, learning, or leadership. He’s known for his ability to make sense of complex presentations and to support others in doing the same, offering expert consultation, supervision, training, and strategic input to individuals and systems alike.
James believes that effective psychological input should leave people and organisations more informed, more confident, and better equipped to move forward. His work is all about building shared understanding and sustainable change.
He is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). James has presented his work at national and international conferences and is published in a range of books and peer-reviewed journals.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children – and otherwise is usually participating in or watching some kind of sporting event!
