Psychology Workshops to Support Legal Services
Working in legal services is a high-pressure environment. Workers often have to deal with stories and information full of trauma, risk and distress. The legal sector is also a fast paced, high consequence and high demand environment. This will over time inevitably impact upon us, our practice, our wellbeing and resilience. Practice areas such as such as Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Family & Crime are psychologically challenging environments which place huge pressures on both individuals and teams.
At the Centre for Psychologically Responsive Leadership (CPRL), we offer a range of workshops to support the psychological knowledge, skills and wellbeing of those working in legal services. These are typically 3-hour workshops which can be delivered online or in person. However, we can tailor our training to meet your needs.
Our Workshops
Work, Stress & Red Flags – What to watch out for and how to deal with them
What are the main causes of work stress and how do they affect us and our colleagues? How can we notice the ‘red flags’ that indicate we are being negatively impacted? What are our individual coping styles, how do these help or hinder us, and what steps should we take to help us improve our wellbeing?
How can we cultivate Resilience?
Workshop A
Individual Resilience: What is resilience (and what is it not) and what key factors help us to feel resilient? How can we recognise and utilise key resources that contribute to our individual resilience?
Workshop B
Team Resilience: What is resilience (and what is it not) and what are the key factors, behaviours and dynamics in teams that cultivate resilience? How can we build a culture within our team that fosters resilience?
Understanding Trauma and how it might present in our clients
This workshop will help you to understand the human threat system and the varying ways in which traumatic experience can be expressed physically, behaviourally and interpersonally. We will explore individual coping mechanisms to high stress and trauma to help you recognise and understand your client’s trauma. Particularly relevant to practice areas where clients have often suffered trauma (E.g. Family, PI/Clin neg).
Understanding Trauma – How traumatic reactions play out in systems/organisations
In this workshop we will explore how high stress and trauma has ripple effects within any system, be it a family, team organisation or sector. Being able to recognise and understand how trauma plays out between people and groups as a parallel process helps us to be able to mitigate its impact and help increase a sense of safety. This allows us to be more proactive and less reactive. Particularly relevant to practice areas where clients have often suffered trauma (E.g. Family, PI/Clin neg).
Understanding Trauma – How we are affected by working with trauma and how we can support our wellbeing
Working in systems and with individuals where there is a high level of traumatic experience has an impact on our threat systems and therefore our wellbeing too. This workshop will help you to understand the typical impact of trauma on professionals, how this interacts with our own coping style and previous experience, and practical ways to reduce burnout and create practices to look after ourselves. Particularly relevant to practice areas where clients have often suffered trauma (E.g. Family, PI/Clin neg).
Having Challenging Conversations
How do we engage in challenging conversations or ‘productive conflict’ with our work colleagues/clients/other lawyers/third parties in order for us to improve our performance and sense of meaningful engagement with one another? We will explore what we might need from one another to cultivate a helpful environment. How do we create a culture of ‘High Care & High Challenge’?
